My fears were confirmed this afternoon--I do have gestational diabetes. What a bummer. I'm told that it has nothing to do with all the See's candy and gingerbread lattes, so I take cold comfort in that fact. I spent 3 1/2 hours yesterday at the hospital alternately drinking sickeningly sweet fizzy orange liquid and having my blood drawn (four times!) while lying propped up on a chair similar to those in a dental office. It wasn't that bad since my veins were easily found (I never thought I would have track marks on my arm and now I look like a pregnant junkie) and I had a personal TV on which to watch The View and that show on TLC about looking ten years younger through a makeover. It was, in a strange way, a bit relaxing since I couldn't use either my phone or the internet. Unfortunately, the results were not quite as relaxing as the medical experience.
And so I have an appointment on Friday morning with a dietician and an endocrinologist to find out what sort of special diet I will need to adhere to and how to stick myself with a needle five times a day to test my blood. I'm so excited.

That sucks Lauara! I'm sorry :-( My friend, LaTanya had GD and birthed four boys, large, 12 lbs and vaginally. Hang in there, gal. First time at bat too.
How do you feel? Do you feel OK?
Laura, so sorry to hear that! I will be curious to see how your appointment goes. Tracy (my friend from college that you met at my wedding) had GD with her second child and said that she never felt better than after starting the modified food plan (diet is a bad word, you know!) and continued to eat that way following her pregnancy because it made her feel so good.
As for AI, I felt bad for that kid Bruce (19 and never been kissed) ... I thought he had a nice voice. I love the farmer boy -- he's a cutie! Can't wait for Hollywood week!
Thanks for the good cheer, Beck and Christa. It's nice to know that you both have friends who have gone through the same thing. I have felt a little bummed out about everything this week, but I'm sure I'll get used to the procedures soon enough.
I definitely feel like I have enough on my plate between the fibroid and the GD!
Hey girl! Don't sweat about the GD. I had it both pregnancies and even my largest baby, Jacob, was only 8.6 lbs. I think the 12lb babies come when you don't follow the "modified eating plan" (love that description). Pricking your finger isn't that difficult you'll get used to the routine...and testing your pee in the morning...did they tell you about that? again, no big deal. It will all come together very easily and there are plenty of food options. Hang in there girl you're doing great...I'm going to keep checking in...
