Hello, Dolly!

I finally made it over to Nordstrom today to get professionally fitted for a bra now that I'm a few months past nursing. Yeah, those nursing bras were looking pretty sad, let me tell you. And don't get me started about the drawerful of cheapie Vanity Fair bras I bought at TJ Maxx ($7) to get me through my growing stages of pregnancy--everything from B cups to C cups, and (gulp) one random D cup. They are no match for my new body.

In the lingerie department at Nordy's, a nice young woman followed me into a fitting room with a selection of brassieres and asked me if I minded if she stayed to take a look at the fit. Mind? Now that I've had a baby, someone staring at my chest is the least of my worries. I didn't have even an ounce of shame. The woman handed me a few bras to try on and, amazingly, they all fit! The lift and pull I've been missing made a re-appearance. Yippee!

I gazed at my perky chest in the fitting room mirror with great admiration until my eyes rested on the size listed on the price tag. Double gulp. Mama's please tell me this is normal. I have gone from a 34 B/32 C to a....32 DD!! Wha?? What about all of those stories about women's chests shrinking after nursing ends? I have a friend who personally told me that she went from an A to a Concave after she stopped nursing her second child. This new increase may sound like a fun problem to have, but in reality I cannot button up my size small tops.

Is it wrong to wish for a smaller chest? Some would say yes. I say no.

Hate to tell you sister, but the same thing happened to me. I went from a 36DDD to a 36G -- yes, you read that right, a G -- that's 4 Ds -- count them D-D-D-D.

To help ease your distress, I would venture to say that you were probably wearing the wrong size before (with your small frame there is no way you belonged in a 34) and I would also venture to say that it is the brand that you chose that put you in the DD. I suspect that over the next year that you may find yourself comfortably in a 32D or even in a 30 band size, which is probably more like where you truly belong.

I have learned a lot about bra sizing going to a 36H -- yes 5 Ds -- when I was nursing and not being able to buy bras at a normal store for many, many a moon.

Welcome to the Club of the Well Endowed!
