It's been confirmed by Dr. Andy. Gavin has a bad case of gas. It's sad for the poor little guy since it hurts him so much, and it's really sad for the mama and the daddy since he awakens at precisely 5 a.m. each morning (for the last week) and screams and cries intermittently for anywhere from three to seven hours (he does take some naps in there). Miraculously, he is fine by the afternoon. He's gaining weight like Kirstie Alley, so we know it's not colic.
Anyone know any tricks for helping babies with gas? The doctor told me to cut out dairy for five days to see if he is having a problem, but otherwise he just has to ride it out.
Hopefully Gavin will feel better and we will get some sleep so the crying in this family can stop.

With all your efforts to increase your milk supply, have you considered the possibility that maybe you have a forceful let-down or oversupply? Read this link: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/fast-letdown.html. This can cause gas if he is gulping air while trying to manage the milk flow. Just something to consider.
Also, 5 days dairy free is probably not going to be enough to assess if it a an issue with milk protein -- you will probably need to go a full 2-3 weeks. If you decide to do a dairy elimination, you need to eliminate ALL dairy - obvious and hidden. Read this: http://www.kellymom.com/babyconcerns/food-sensitivity.html. Scroll down toward the bottom of the page page and you will find the Hidden Dairy Cheat Sheet. You will not know if milk protein is the issue if you don't eliminate all dairy from your diet.
I had oversupply and forceful letdown with both kids and did a dairy-free trial with Sarah to see if it would help and it did not. However, nursing uphill and some of the other things that are talked about in that first link did help quite a bit to manage the oversupply to that I was not drowning her.

PS. Yahoo for David Cook!
Get your lac constulatant out there on the double to check his latch to see if he's gulping air.
Other than that a vibrating bouncer chair may help (I have one I can loan you!). Then there are drugs: baby gripe water (my sister says this works) and Mylicon. Who knows if they work. I'd get on the lac consult and the vibrating chair thing first off.
Hang in there mama - you're really earning your stripes. My kids have been getting up at 5:30am for some odd reason. I'll say a prayer for you all as I crumble out of bed.
Hang in there guys! I do remember the gas pain crying. Sometimes I couldn't tell the difference between the baby's wails and mine. I do remember doing some gentle abdomen massage with one of my boys and slow, gentle leg movements (think bicycling) to help "move" the gas along...sometimes it helped...sometimes...well we just kept crying. I also tried the Mylicon drops...again..don't recall whether or not they worked. You might ask a massage therapist or chiropractor for suggestions as well.
It's those helpless moments in mothering when you feel like you've tried everything and nothing is working. Just keep trying and moving forward...it really will "pass".

I am so sorry. I remember doing the tummy massage/baby bicycle kicks with Joshua. Sometimes it helped, sometimes not. I think there is an early bird waking up all the kids. Joshua has been waking at 4:30 AM. I mean, seriously??
girl- so sorry! I feel you, I say the best thing for ANni was time (I know not a fun answer for a tired and frustrated Mama) but it will get better. SO the next recommendation I have is lunch with Rox & Beck at cosi!
