Pop Culture Ramblings

Did anyone else see Oprah's interview with Tom Cruise this past Friday and Monday? I thought it was a brilliant PR strategy for Tom, and I am curious to know whether his publicist and agent put the package together, or whether Oprah has a brilliant producer who thought of the concept. It was a win-win for both of them. Tom had the chance to do a "warm fuzzy" interview with the most powerful influencer in possibly the world, and Oprah had a huge ratings draw (oh, wait, it is May sweeps...). The interview was successful if it put Tom back in your good graces. I have to admit that it was pretty brilliant and I found myself liking him more at the end of the interview than when it began.

Okay, more ramblings to come.

I caught Oprah's afterglow for about 2 minutes at 11:30pm.

You thought this was brilliant? I thought it was the oldest trick in the book. No? Of course his post partum depression issue had him lose major points. I wonder if even Rosie O'Donnell was able to forgive him! But if Brooke Shields can... so can I. He's getting old and kinda creepy to me tho. Just my 2 cents.

Maybe Oprah should have Hilary and Obama on her show (separately) talk about their loves lives and see who self destructs. At least this campiaign will be OVER! ARRRRGGGHHHHH

Yes, the PR campaign was glaringly obvious, but you have to give the public what they want, and Oprah was definitely making it happen for Tom. That's why I think it was brilliant. Oprah has so much control over people's opinions it is alarming and fascinating to watch!

If you didn't think it was odd when Katie told him she loved him like three times when saying goodbye (seriously, she was just going to town for the morning...), then you had to realise something was up when Tom insisted his kids warmed up to Katie because she brought CUPCAKES. Oh, and other sugary confections. I guess that's enough to welcome a new mother figure into your life, and a new baby sibling, by anyone's standards.
Smacks a little PR'y to me too.
But it was still a pretty sweet house, so I was glad for the peek...
