The Best Meal We Had In L.A.

Lest you think I've lost my foodly edge, I must tell you about the best meal we had in L.A. After a steady stream of California-style "fast food" (burritos, Carl's Jr., In-N-Out Burger...) it was a relief to eat something just plain good and slightly gourmet-ish in a simple way. So, that is how we came to eat breakfast at Cafe Buna in Marina del Rey yesterday. And you want to know what the best part was? Eating with Karen and Shawn, our road-warrior friends who have been away from Chicago for nearly two months on a trek across America.
It was so great to see Karen and Shawn that the food came in a definite second. But it was still good! I really enjoyed my granola french toast with fruit and my bowl-sized cup of coffee, brought to me in what our waiter called "the Princess Cup." What? Me, a princess? And Karen, bless her heart, is so aware of what it takes to eat a gluten-free diet that she had a menu recommendation for Joe all ready to go. It was a wonderful morning and the perfect way to cap off our trip to California. We can't wait for our friends to come home--albeit briefly--to share more laughs over great food. Bon appetite, my friends!
